Cleaning Instructions
For Acrylic Skylights

Your Skylight can withstand severe shocks without breaking, however, the surface luster may become marred by an improper cleaning method or careless handling during installation.

Washing

Wash skylights with a mild soap and a lukewarm water solution. Use a clean cotton cloth or a clean sponge and as much solution as possible. Rinse well and dry by blotting with a clean, damp cotton cloth or chamois.

Warning: Do not use gritty cloths, leaded or ethyl gasoline, window cleaning fluids, scouring compounds or strong solvents such as alcohol acetone, carbon tetrachloride, lacquer thinner ect.. To remove greases, paint, tar ect. use naphtha or kerosene with a clean cotton cloth.

Polishing

A periodic waxing with a good grade of automotive paste wax, not a cleaner wax combination, protects the surface of your skylight and will maintain the luster. Apply a thin even coating of wax with a soft clean cloth and lightly buff with a clean cotton cloth. After polishing, wipe with a damp cloth to ground static charges, lessening dust build-up.

Scratch Removal

Like beautiful furniture or fine silver, your skylight can be scratched. However, unlike most other materials, scratches on the acrylic are removable. Most minor surface scratches can be visibly removed by waxing. For deeper scratches, sand lightly with 400 grit "wet or dry" and buff with a clean Muslin Wheel dressed with a good grade of fine grit buffing compound. A 1/4" electric drill with a 4" buffing wheel that has sufficient RPM's (between 1800-2000) can be used as well.

 Caution

Friction from buffing, sanding or polishing too long or too vigorously, in any spot, can generate enough heat to cause the surface to soften or "burn". This can result in a permanent scar on your acrylic that cannot be removed.
